Textbook: Jacobs, Randolph, LeVasseur. World Explorer: Medieval Times to Today. Pearson Prentice Hall. Upper Saddle River New Jersey. 2003.

Required Materials: Binder, Colored Pencils

Course Description: Students will study world civilizations starting with the fall of Rome through the French Revolution. Units include the Middle Ages in Europe, Asia, and Africa, Renaissance, Reformation, Exploration, and Enlightenment. Empires covered include the Ottoman, Mughul, and Chinese Dynasties.

Grading:

Notebook: Students create Interactive Student Notebooks (ISNB). This is a notebook or binder that holds all class materials including class notes, worksheets, maps, and grade sheets. Students build these notebooks and are graded as a quiz at the end of the term.

Tests/Quizzes: Tests count twice and quizzes count once. Tests and quizzes will be announced. Projects and writing assignments are announced as quizzes or tests when assigned. If an assignment is handed in late, 10 points are taken off for each day.

Homework: Homework is a test grade. Homework is given every night and usually consists of a worksheet or work in the textbook. All students start with 100 points. For each assignment that is not completed, 5 points will be taken off. Late homework is accepted for half credit.

Term 2 – Around the World in 90 Days (Timeline)

Term 3 – Medieval Medical Care (Research Paper)

Term 4 – Renaissance Artist Presentations (PowerPoint within groups)
