Synopsis: Vacations are a funny thing. We yearn for them, work for them, pine for them, fantasize about them, but, when they finally arrive, they bring with them such a mix of the funny and frustrating, we have to take a whole year to forget them so we can long for them once more! Mr. Hobbs Vacation is set in the Vacationland wonders of Rock Harbor, Maine, just off the coast from Kennebunkport. It is an idyllic island community, at least for nine months out of every year and, then, only for the local residents. From June 1st through Labor Day, it is a classic tourist trap of doubled prices, outrageous house rentals, questionable fellow tourists, failing plumbing and abysmal traffic. In short, the kind of place any sane person would avoid on their vacation unless they were dragooned into it by loving but clueless family members. Mr. Roger Hobbs of Cleveland, OH is one of the latter category. From the moment that he and his family set foot inside "Grey Gables," their sight-unseen rental house on the shore of Rock Harbor, the "fun" of family vacation begins. It is a wild and funny ride for the Hobbs' and for all of their "friends" who take advantage of their limited connection with the Hobbs' to live (at their expense) amidst the joys of this costal vacation retreat. For anyone who aspires to lengthy family vacations at the shore, this is the must-see play in order to prepare you for what's to come this summer.
As is the tradition, proceeds from the plays will benefit the KP Master Thespian Scholarship fund to support KP students pursuing studies in theatre upon graduating from King Philip. Therefore. we invite you to bask in the summer sun, cool off in the waters of the Atlantic, cavort with the summer crowd, and help support those students who have worked for three months to bring this enjoyable comedy to life for you.
Please contact Mr. Joseph Ferreira, Drama Director, at ferreiraj@kingphilip.org or by phone at KP High at (508) 384-1000, Ext. 206 between 9AM and 3PM, Monday through Friday for further information.
