Dear Pride and Passion Members:

Reflections on our week of band camp -  “WOW!!!”  Beyond all the little stuff the one big picture that came out was that you all want to be great at what you do.  And, I believe Sunday was a clear example of that.

Mr. Gowern and I were up on top of the podium and what we heard and saw was a show that has little issues other than the normal cleaning process.  That is rather unique.  I also saw a level of confidence in what you were doing.  I have always left band camp thinking we have so much work to do and we do – but it was work in reviewing what we know.  I believe if logistics gives us the chance we should be able to move on quickly this year.

Please create dot notebooks that help you memorize your placements or coordinates and begin to own those coordinates.  It will be extremely important in the review process.

My thanks go to our chaperones, counselors, and staff for their commitment to all of you.  Please be sure to thank them personally when you get the chance.  They did a magnificent job.  Please note that I don’t take for granted what you do for the kids and me.  To ask and have someone reacting like you do is humbling.  I  know speaking for our staff – they are blown away by your generosity and willingness to serve the needs of everyone involved.  I find myself sitting in my car in traffic yesterday and marveling at all the things that had to have been done to pull off the type of camp we had.  I was overwhelmed by those details and realize that there is much I don’t know of that goes on behind the scenes.

Students: Although, in years past I may have felt guilty not being around you as much, this year I did not.  That is because the staff is very competent doing the job for you and you have trust in them where discipline is not an issue.  As long as I can do my thing from an overseeing point of view and write music, I think we have a great balance here.  Even though you may not see me, I am always watching, but now with more of a prideful eye.  Who knows?  If this can continue, I can last that much longer.

I want to once again thank you for making this commitment to this organization.  It honors me, your parents, the community, and the King Philip Regional High School.  And, lastly, know that your experiences will be a source of confidence in everything you do in life.

Sincerely,

Mr. Tileston
