World Languages Department
Philosophy
The World Language program attempts to meet the needs of the
students by broadening their means of communication and enriching
their cultural insignts.
Through the articulation of linguistic objectives with broad
cultural materials, the student is led through a comprehensive
sequence aimed toward communicative competence in the target
language. Please note that for Latin students, competence in
understanding an ancient language will be assessed primarily
through readings in Latin.
Since longer exposure to any world language leads to greater
mastery, it is our belief that students should continue in the
longest sequence possible.
