Communications Technology/Computer Graphics

This semester course is designed for students looking for opportunities to use technology creatively to produce newsletters, brochures, and other publications that integrate text, graphics, and photographs in order to create professional print and online publications. In today's world the ability to communicate a message clearly is so important. The writer must be able to get and to keep the reader's attention.

The software used in this course will primarily be Microsoft Publisher. Additionally, there will be use of a digital camera, scanner, and a unit on using a photo editing software in order to integrate photo images into publications. In addition to emphasis on technology and communication skills, design elements will be covered also, such as font use, visual balance, and use of white space. Students will apply all concepts learned by producing realistic print and online publications (Web pages) that look attractive and professional. Students will be assessed through a demonstration of skills that have been taught in class by completing application projects, simulations, and tests.

Creating Web Pages with HTML

Learn how to design and create Web pages with HTML. Plan the content, structure and layout of Web sites, create pages full of neatly formatted text, build links between the pages and to the outside world, and add color, backgrounds, graphics, tables, buttons, and animation. Add audio and video clips to Web pages. Create attractive page layouts with tables. Use forms to get data from users. An introduction to Javascript will also be included.

Learn about the capabilities of the World Wide Web and the fundamentals of Web design. Discover what attracts visitors to a site, including typography, aesthetics, color graphics, page layout, and the elements of effective Web writing.

Students will be assessed through a demonstration of skills that have been taught in class by completing application projects and tests. By the end of the semester, each student will have completed a Web site with a minimum of three Web pages.

Advanced Web Page Design

This course is designed for those students who have completed the Creating Web Pages with HTML course and who wish to explore further topics in Web page creation and design. Topics covered will include advanced HTML concepts, preparing digital images specifically for use on Web pages, DHTML, XML, using Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and JavaScript.

Students will be assessed by a demonstration of skills that have been taught in class by completing an application project (a Web site) and tests.

Creating Multimedia For The Web

This course is designed for those students who have completed the Creating Web Pages with HTML course and who wish to explore further the art of creating digital images and animations for use on Web pages.

Topics covered will include creating buttons, borders, backgrounds, text images, digital images, and more. Other special effects will include adding sound and animation to Web pages.

Students will be assessed by a demonstration of skills that have been taught in class by completing an application project (a Web site) and tests.
