French Club Pond Home Visitation
Each year, the French Club visits the Pond Home Gracious Retirement Home. On the Tuesday closest to Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Easter, the French Club meets with the residents from about 3:00 to 4:00 and engages them in French activities including:
French Bingo
- Holiday-themed Bingo cards made by the French Club
- Each of three winners receives a prize such as a small vase of cloth flowers, chocolates, or a small stuffed animal.
French Cards
- Holiday-themed flash cards printed large enough for the residents to read
- The words are pronounced by a French Club/French National Honor Society (FNHS) member and the residents are invited to repeat it and guess at the word's English equivalent
French Songs
- A packet of French songs is given to each of the residents to follow along in while we sing a continuous medley of songs.
- The French Club/FNHS members each sit or kneel next to a resident to help him or her with page turns or pronunciations.
Valentine's Day Poem
- On Valentine's Day, the French Club/FNHS members help the residents decorate a pre-written poem with construction paper and doilies.
- A ribbon is then attached to create a festive door hanger.
- The poem is:
- J'aime deux choses, toi et une rose. La rose pour un jour, et toi pour toujours
- I love two things, you and a rose. The rose for one day, and you for forever.
French Music
- French music is occasionally played from a CD.
Cookie Decorating
- The French Club occasionally brings pre-made sugar cookies, frosting, and sprinkles and lets the residents decorate their own goodies with the students.
French Language Classes
- The French Club is in the process of planning French Language Classes for the Pond Home residents, which will focus more directly on teaching the French Language. They will take place monthly and will run from 3:00-4:00.
