It’s
hard to believe, but we are fast approaching the mid point of another
school year. Middle school
instrumental students have been representing themselves quite well
musically this year. Many 8th
grade students were members of the High School Marching Band this year,
and had a fantastic season. The
leadership they bring to the Middle School Concert Band is immeasurable.

King Philip Middle School Chorus 2006-2007
From:
Jennifer Gibson Brewer
Hello
Parents and Friends,
The year
has been a busy one with three performance venues already, including
our yearly caroling trip to the Pond Retirement Home and
the Wrentham Outlet Mall. The trip was a success and we
especially had fun caroling
for resident Florence Tingley, the mother of our own Mr. Larry
Tingley, who is a faculty member at the middle school. The
people at the mall were all very excited to have us there, and often
stopped to ask for us to sing
a favorite carol.
The
Winter Concert was held in the gym this year to help accommodate our
fans and the growing population of the band. The performance went very
well and the audience enjoyed participating, by clapping along with
"Haida" and singing "Jingle Bells" and
"Deck the Halls".
Our
upcoming concerts include a joint performance with the High School
Chorus on March 29th, in the auditorium. This performance will help us
to prepare for the MICCA contest on that Saturday, the 31st. This year
both the 7th grade and 8th grade choruses will be performing together,
as we sing "Simple Gifts" from Aaron Copland, a movement
from Vivaldi's "Gloria" and "Come to the Music" by
Joseph Martin, a festival favorite with changing time signatures a-la
Leonard Bernstein! I hope to see you at all our events this year, as we continue to grow as musicians and friends. Be sure to check out our new web page at http://kpmschorus.com; we look forward to singing for you! |

As the years roll on, they seem to go by faster and faster. It’s hard to believe another school year has come and gone. Eighth Grade students are moving on to new schools with excitement and perhaps a little trepidation. They will truly be missed. The seventh grade students are ready for the next challenge, and with one year under their belt are excited to be ascending to the 8th Grade. I’m very excited to see where the next school year will take them. We had some wonderful performances in the second half of the school year, starting out with the MICCA Concert Band Festival. Both groups faced a strict panel of adjudicators at the festival and represented the music program magnificently, with each earning a Silver Medal. There were also several Chamber Groups who took part in the MICCA Solo and Ensemble Festival this year, a trend I would like to see continue and grow. Our Jazz Ensemble had some fantastic performances
at the end of the year. I hope to add more performance opportunities for them
next year. At our May Concert, the 7th & 8th Grade
Concert Bands and Jazz Ensemble were joined by a number of Chamber Ensembles. So
many in fact, that we will be adding one or two Chamber Concerts to the middle
school schedule next year. The May Concert was a great success. We wrapped up
our year with a performance at the Pond Street Recreation Fields in Thank you to all of the parents for their support this year. Your dedication to your children is remarkable. Special thanks go to Chris and Diane Sepe for their organization of the equipment move from the high school, and their son Tim Sepe for organizing the student stage crew for both the May Concert and the Pond Street Concert. To all of the graduating seniors, thank you for allowing me to be a part of your education. It is such a joy to see you continue to be such extraordinary people. Best wishes to you all! In closing, have a safe and happy summer. Enjoy the sunny weather (if it ever stops raining) and time with friends and family. To the seventh grade students, have fun, be safe, don’t forget to practice (sorry, I had to get that in) and see you next year. To the eighth grade students, I haven’t said it enough -- Thank you for your dedication to excellence over the last two years. Enjoy your futures and please, come back and say hello from time to time. |

King Philip Middle School Chorus Spring 2006 2006 Notes from Ms. Brewer The KPMS Choral Department has enjoyed a
wonderful year and we are eagerly looking forward to next year with an incoming
group of 45 seventh graders! Next year the honors chorus will also include some
9th graders. This will enlarge the group and make even more opportunities
possible for them. This year our
community venues included caroling at Wrentham Outlet Mall and singing at the
Pond Retirement Home and the Maples Nursing Home in December.
The honors chorus sang for an event at the YMCA in On April 1st, we went to the MICCA festival for the first time, taking the 8th graders, and brought home a bronze medal. The joint concert we did with the high school in March right before MICCA was a huge success and the 8th graders all look forward to singing with the older students next year. Our June 13th concert, the 2nd Annual Choral and Arts Spring Event, included instrumental solos and duets as well as featuring recent poetic works of students here at the middle school. The highlight of the night was a Phantom of the Opera Medley which the students were all really into and which included many soloist as well as lighting effects. This was a significant year and it is hard to say goodbye to so many promising singers, but I encourage everyone leaving KPMS to continue to have musical lives. For those staying or newly joining us, I look forward to another fantastic season of singing. Have a musical summer! KPMS Choral Director Jennifer G. Brewer |

It’s been another busy year for the King Philip Middle School Music Program. The opening of this school year saw the unveiling of the new music wing. The existing auditorium and music room have been newly renovated and the 7th and 8th Grade Bands are happy to be in our new home, a new band room. Students are continuing to take advantage of the many ensemble opportunities offered by the King Philip Music Program. The middle school has been represented in the High School Marching Band, Winter Percussion and Jazz Ensemble. Congratulations to all of the students who auditioned for the South East District Junior Festival. Two of our musicians were selected to participate in the festival. Rachael Miller earned first chair in the Orchestra and Christopher Palmer earned second chair in the Jazz Ensemble. We are very proud of their achievement. In the future please look here for rehearsal schedules and important dates for the Middle School Music Program. Respectfully, Joshua Orrin Wolloff

Wow! What an incredible year it has been! King Philip North students have been a part of a number of great experiences. Some participated in the High School Marching Band. Many auditioned for the South East District Middle School Festival. Two Students, Emily Fanty - flute, 7th grade and Tyler Huth -trumpet, 8th grade, were accepted into the SE District Middle School Festival Concert Band. Many are getting their first taste of Jazz in the KP North Jazz Ensemble. Our percussionists have had the pleasure of learning from Mr. Powers in our Percussion Ensemble. Students are without a doubt working hard and continuing to grow as musicians and human beings. The chorus, concert bands, and jazz ensemble are all preparing for our end of the year concert. |
