Mr. Jones

Dear students, parents, families, and members of the King Philip community,

Hello and welcome to 8th grade!  To begin, I want to say that I am looking forward to my tenth year here at King Philip Middle School very much.  Even though this year's format and schedule are vastly different than they were in years past, I am optimistic that we will discover many things about our new structure that will ultimately benefit us and that we will enjoy; we may, in fact, wonder how things were ever done differently in the first place, and we will all undoubtedly grow from this experience!  As such, I am looking forward to embarking on this new journey with all of you as well as an incredible team of teachers with whom I feel incredibly blessed to work with every day.  Mrs. Bois, Sra. Brenneis, Mr. Jacobsen, Mrs. Langmead, and Ms. McNulty are some of the most talented educators I know, each of them exercising compassion, empathy, understanding, friendship, leadership, creativity, intelligence, energy, humor, and more on a daily basis!  We are also pleased to welcome Ms. Panchuk to our team this year, and we know that she will fit right in!  KPMS is a tremendous community that I am so thankful to be a part of every day; I truly feel that we have the best faculty and students at our school!

I would also like to take this opportunity to share with you some information about myself.  Prior to working at KPMS I spent a year abroad teaching English in China, which truly was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  I lived and taught in a small city in China's Inner Mongolia province called Tongliao, about 200 miles northwest of China's capital city of Beijing.  While in China I was fortunate to be able to travel to various destinations throughout China (I've actually seen more of China than I have the United States!) as well as a few countries in southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Cambodia, and Malaysia.  Of course, I have many stories, pictures, and videos from my travels that I am excited to share!

Prior to living in China, I graduated from Providence College in Providence, Rhode Island (Go Friars!), where I was a student in the Liberal Arts Honors Program.  My major was history and I also had a double-minor in Italian and art history.  Recently, in May of 2018, I received my master's degree in special education from Bridgewater State University in Bridgewater, Massachusetts.  While earning both my undergraduate and graduate degrees, I sought coursework that would be challenging, thought-provoking, and relevant to what I teach, as I always love when I am able to integrate strategies and content that I learn from my own classes into my teaching.

I have many varied interests, hobbies, and favorite things.  I enjoy reading, writing, drawing, painting, exercising, dancing, listening to music, watching movies and streaming TV shows, playing board games and video games, building LEGOs, traveling, exploring nutrition, visiting museums, going out to eat, and spending time with my family and friends, to name just a few.  I am a curious and outgoing person, so I am always willing to try something new!

When reading, I prefer the historical fiction and science fiction/fantasy genres, but I also enjoy some nonfiction every now and then too.  My iPhone is pretty much filled to capacity with pop music, but there's also a healthy dose of hip-hop and alternative artists in there as well.  Additionally, I always love a good scare (Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday!) so I love watching horror/suspense/thriller movies.  I have too many favorite books/authors, songs/artists, and movies to list here, but because there are so many I'm sure we'll connect over some of them at some point this year!

Outside of the classroom, I have also very much enjoyed my involvement with the KPMS Drama Club.  I have been the assistant director and technical coordinator for the KPMS Drama Club productions of The Wizard of Oz, Jr., Willy Wonka, Jr., Getting to Know The Sound of Music, High School Musical, Jr., Beauty and the Beast, Jr., Annie, Jr., as well as Mary Poppins, Jr., and I look forward to once again working with Ms. Duffy and Mr. DeWolfe as the advisors to the KPMS Drama Club once again this year.

So, that's me in a nutshell!  Even though we will not physically be in school for some time, "my door is always open," so to speak, so if you ever have questions please do not hesitate to reach out.  The best way to reach me is via email at  From there, we can schedule a time to meet over Zoom for a video-conference if that is your preference.  I'm looking forward to a great year!
