    Course Description:

In this course, students will build upon their prior ceramics experience and continue learning new ways to communicate ideas through the medium of clay. Students will learn advanced clay techniques and strengthen their skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and personal expression. Students will demonstrate their knowledge through: the creation of their clay pieces, critiques, written evaluations and their interactions with others as they participate in creating a respectful learning community. Above all, and most importantly, students will learn to think like an artist.

    Thinking Like An Artist

In this day and age, being ‘smart’ has taken on a new meaning; it is no longer enough to learn and memorize facts. Information is readily available and just a mouse click away. One of the most important things a student can learn is what to do with facts and information; how to think like an artist:

    • The ability to take risks
    • A capacity to learn from mistakes
    • Looking at things more closely than most
    • Seeing the ordinary and the potential for extraordinary
    • Making connections between the world, themselves, and ideas
    • Working towards full potential, never settling for mediocrity
    • Embracing a challenge
    • Generating new possibilities
