I began my teaching career right here at KP, my alma mater, in September of 1994. I am truly blessed by my students everyday and I hope they can say the same about me.
I believe an education in the arts is incredibly important for EVERY student. In this day and age, being ‘smart’ has taken on a new meaning. It is no longer enough to just learn and memorize facts; information is readily available and just a mouse click away! One of the most important things a student can learn is what to do with facts and information, in other words, how to think like an artist.
How to Think Like an Artist:
~ Looking at things more closely than most
~ Finding beauty in everyday things and situations
~ Making connections between the world, themselves, and ideas
~ Going beyond ordinry ways of thinking and doing things
~ Looking at things in different ways in order to generate new perspectives.
~ Taking risks and exposing yourself to possible failure
~ Arranging things in new and interesting ways
~ Working hard and at the edge of your potential
~ Persisting where others may give up
~ Concentrating your effort and attention for long periods of time
~ Dreaming and fantasizing about things
~ Using old ideas to create new ideas and ways of seeing things
~ Doing something simply because it is interesting and personally challenging to do
