Superintendent Paul Zinni, on behalf of the Healthy KP Substance Use Prevention Coalition and KP Sports Boosters, would like to invite King Philip Regional High School community members to attend their upcoming Back to School Social, Lawn Games & Parent Info Fair.

The Back to School Social, Lawn Games & Parent Info Fair will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the King Philip Regional High School Field House, 201 Franklin St. (Route 140), Wrentham.

For Students:

Beginning at 6 p.m., students will attend a MEGA Brain presentation given by Regional Substance Use Prevention Coordinator Oomiya Kawas.

Immediately following the presentation, students will participate in lawn games and a cornhole tournament. The first-place winner of the tournament will receive $100 and the second-place winner will receive $50. Other games and activities will also be available.

For Parents and Guardians:

Parents and guardians will attend an Info Fair from 6-6:45 p.m. The fair will include a Hidden In Plain Sight exhibit, which will explore a mock bedroom of a teenager who is using substances and teaches parents how to look for paraphernalia and what to look for.

There will also be a Social Host Law presentation given by Detective Sgt. Jim Barrett of the Wrentham Police Department, who will discuss local social hosting laws and liability laws for parents.

Director of Wellness Dot Pearl will have a table of mental health resources for parents available, the SAFE Coalition will be present with community resources, and the King Philip Parent Network and Boosters will be there networking and connecting with families. Also in attendance will be Superintendent Zinni, high school principal Dr. Lisa Mobley and Coordinator Kawas to meet and connect with families.

A raffle will be held at the end of the fair with $100 and $50 raffle prizes. To enter the raffle, families will sign up for raffle entries at each table they visit.

Following the fair, a MEGA Brain presentation will be given by Regional Substance Use Prevention Coordinator Kawas.

At 7:05 p.m., a Food Social will be held for all attendees. Free hot dogs and burgers will be provided by the KP Boosters.

“We’re extremely excited to be hosting this event as a way to welcome students back to school with an evening filled with some exciting activities and games while their families have the opportunity to attend some informational sessions,” Regional Substance Use Prevention Coordinator Kawas said. “This event will provide the opportunity for parents to learn more about the resources available to them and connect with their school community while students hang out with one another and enjoy some fun before the start of the school year. We encourage all to attend.”
