King Philip DECA Fall Leadership Conference and Event Updates

Superintendent Rich Drolet, Principal Nicole Bottomley, King Philip DECA Advisor James Dow, and King Philip DECA Secretary Dylan Spak are excited to report the King Philip DECA Chapter’s attendance and success at the Massachusetts DECA Fall State Leadership Conference, DECA Day on the Hill, and the Difference Maker event.

On October 24th, KP DECA chapter officers attended Massachusetts’ DECA’s Fall State Leadership Conference at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA. The officers participated in various networking activities and workshops focused on leadership skills, success in written projects, and public speaking. The team enjoyed interacting with expert DECA judge Kim Carman, North Atlantic DECA Vice President Hannah Heidari, and Massachusetts DECA State Action Team 67. The conference was a huge success, and KP DECA is eager to apply these skills to the competition season ahead!

Additionally, on November 7th, the KP DECA chapter officers were honored to attend Massachusetts DECA’s DECA Day on the Hill. The team, led by Chapter Advisor James Dow, traveled to the Massachusetts State House, where they heard from congressmen, senators, and representatives. Along with learning about new legislation aimed at limiting cell phone use in schools, the officers and Mr. Dow had the opportunity to tour the historic State House. During the visit, they discovered fascinating facts about how the legislature operates, explored both the Senate Chamber and the House of Representatives, and networked with DECA members from across the state. The team also enjoyed lunch, spoke with Massachusetts DECA State Officers, and received a formal certificate from both the House and Senate. Thanks to the State House, Massachusetts DECA, and Mr. Dow for coordinating this conference!

On November 12th, KP DECA members Logan Riley, Jack Haltom, and Jett Tucker attended the Difference Maker event at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. At the event, the team showcased their DECA project, “Hi Gene!” in a five-minute, pitch-style presentation to a panel of judges from various business fields. Difference Maker is an entrepreneurship-focused event where Massachusetts DECA chapters from across the state compete to showcase their most innovative business ideas. Modeled after UMass Lowell’s collegiate Difference Maker program, this high school edition offers students the opportunity to experience a real-world entrepreneurial challenge on a smaller scale. Logan, Jack, and Jett placed second at the event, the highest placement KP DECA has received at Difference Maker!
