WRENTHAM — King Philip Regional High School is celebrating another State Championship after the Softball Team defeated Somerset Berkley Regional High School by a score of 14-1 to win the MIAA Division 2 State Championship on Saturday afternoon at Worcester State University.

The championship marks the fourth state title in program history and the first since 2016. Previous state championships were won in 2010, 2011, and 2016.

The Warriors completed a dominant postseason run, earning victories over No. 33 Nashoba Regional High School (14-0), No. 17 Milford High School (17-0), No. 8 Silver Lake Regional High School (11-0), No. 4 Shepherd Hill Regional High School (12-0), and Somerset Berkley in the championship game.

King Philip outscored its opponents by a combined 68-1 margin throughout the tournament and did not allow a single run until the state championship game.

“There are very few accomplishments in high school athletics that compare to winning a state championship,” said Athletic Director Gary Brown. “This team earned every bit of its success through hard work, preparation, and a commitment to one another. Their dominant postseason run speaks to the strength of the program and the leadership provided by Coach Fallon and her staff. We are thrilled to celebrate this achievement with our student-athletes, families, and community.”

The Warriors were led throughout the season by seniors McCoy Walsh, Ali Gill, and Lauren Griffin, along with senior managers Kelsey Lynch and Leah Haynes. Their leadership helped guide the team through an outstanding season and a remarkable tournament run.

The championship victory also provides a memorable conclusion to Head Coach Kate Fallon’s coaching career, which she announced during the season.

“This team has been special from the very beginning,” said Coach Fallon. “What makes me most proud is the way these student-athletes represented themselves throughout the season and the way they came together. To finish my coaching career with this group and see them bring another state championship back to King Philip is something I’ll never forget.”

Superintendent Dr. Rich Drolet congratulated the team on its remarkable championship season.

“This championship is a fitting tribute to an exceptional season,” Superintendent Dr. Rich Drolet said. “Coach Kate Fallon and our dedicated coaching staff have helped make King Philip known as one of the premier softball programs in Massachusetts, and this result demonstrates the culture of excellence she has established and continued over the years. Our pitching, defense, and hitting were stellar this year. We are very proud of our student-athletes for their remarkable accomplishment and also for how they have supported one another throughout the season and over the past few years.”

The victory caps an exceptional year for King Philip Athletics. During the 2025-26 school year, four Warrior teams advanced to state championship games, with football, baseball, and softball capturing state titles, and the girls ice hockey team earning a berth in the state final.

“This team demonstrated tremendous determination and commitment throughout the season,” said Principal Nicole Bottomley. “Their success is the result of countless hours of hard work and a dedication to one another that was evident every time they took the field. We are incredibly proud of the way they represented King Philip and our community.”
